New Act

Synopsis As Introduced
Creates the Sustainable Funding for Community Technology Act. Authorizes the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity to (i) establish community collaboratives for the purpose of strategic planning for computing and telecommunications infrastructure and related community and economic development in low-income rural and urban areas and (ii) award strategic planning grants and telecommunications and computing infrastructure sustainable funding grants to those community collaboratives. Effective July 1, 2005.

Fiscal Note (Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity)
Although House Bill 2465 is subject to appropriation, the Department estimates that it would require two additional staff and associated resources with a cost of $173,000 to establish community collaboratives, issue strategic planning grants, review and comment on strategic plans, issue endowment or general operating grants, and perform other functions to administer this new program. These costs would be in additional to appropriations made by the General Assembly for Strategic Planning Grants, endowments, and general operating grants.
