| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with sadness of the death of Minister Cleveland Gray, |
4 |
| Sr., of Alton on December 29, 2004; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, The fourth child of the late Willie Tom and Susie |
6 |
| Mae (Johnson) Gray, he was born February 10, 1930, in Wetumpka, |
7 |
| Alabama; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, A graduate of Alton High School, he attended |
9 |
| college and worked at Chemetco as a plant supervisor, retiring |
10 |
| after 22 years of service; he was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, |
11 |
| having served as a lance corporal in the Korean War; in 1957, |
12 |
| he became a member of St. James Baptist Church, where he served |
13 |
| as a deacon for many years and was serving as associate |
14 |
| minister of the church at the time of his death; and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, |
16 |
| Cleveland Gray, Jr.; his sister, Betty Silas; and his brothers, |
17 |
| Thomas W. and David Gray; and
|
18 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Minister Cleveland Gray, Sr., will |
19 |
| be felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife, the |
20 |
| former Fannie M. Little; his sons, Kenneth Edwin Gray, Sr., |
21 |
| James Edward Clark Sr. (Cora), and Alex Lamont Gray; his |
22 |
| daughters, Tamara Gray-McKinney and Michelle Gray-Clemons; his |
23 |
| grandchildren; his great-grandchildren, Aaron Gray and Daela |
24 |
| Gray; his sisters, W. Ruth Robinson and Nettie Turner; his |
25 |
| brothers, James (Barbara) Gray and Willie (Ruby) Gray; his |
26 |
| daughter-in-law, Serena Gray; and several nieces, nephews, and |
27 |
| cousins; therefore, be it
