SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of the Reverend Dr. Jesse Lee
4 Wiggins of Bethalto on Sunday, December 26, 2004; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Reverend Wiggins was born on October 10, 1940, in
6 Augusta, Georgia, to Lester Wallace and Claudia Mae (Shaffer)
7 Wiggins; he married Rachel Lee Corley on May 16, 1959, in
8 Augusta; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Reverend Wiggins followed his mother's dying wish
10 that her son be a Pentecostal preacher; his first sermon was at
11 age 13, which began a career consisting of 12 churches, more
12 than 5,000 sermons, and more than 8,700 converts; he had been
13 the pastor at Bethalto Church of God from 1974 to 1982 and from
14 1991 until 2004; he was a member of numerous State and
15 international boards through Church of God Ministries, with
16 headquarters in Cleveland, Tennessee, including the State
17 council, the Church of God Editorial and Publications Board,
18 and the Bethalto Area Ministerial Alliance; he also wrote five
19 books and many articles and booklets; and
 
20     WHEREAS, The passing of Reverend Dr. Jesse Lee Wiggins has
21 been deeply felt by his entire congregation and everyone whose
22 life he touched, but especially by his wife, Rachel; his
23 daughter and her husband, Michelle and Duane Rose; his son and
24 his wife, Joseph and Pamela Wiggins; his grandchildren, Jessica
25 Rose, Kyle Wiggins, Tyler Wiggins, Heather Rose, and Michael
26 Wiggins; his sister and her husband, Janice Paulette and Hugh
27 Wendell Thomason; his brothers and their wives, Lester Ranny
28 and Connie Wiggins and Lloyd Fredrick and JoAnna Wiggins; his
29 stepbrother and his wife, Charles Thurston and Shirly Weathers;
30 and his brothers and sisters-in-law, the Rev. H.K. McKnight and
31 Margaret McKnight, Jean and Grady Rhoades, and J.T. Corley; he
32 was preceded in death by his father, Lester Wallace Wiggins,

1 his stepmother, Mary Wiona Weathers Wiggins; and his
2 grandchild, Kari Lynn Wiggins; therefore, be it
 
3     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
4 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
5 Reverend Dr. Jesse Lee Wiggins, and we extend our deepest
6 sympathy his family, friends, congregation, and all who knew
7 and loved him; and be it further
 
8     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9 presented to his family as an expression of our sincere
10 condolences.
