SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with sadness of the death of Reverend Larry D. Hodge of
4 Sugar Grove on October 12, 2004; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born December 22, 1943 in Norfolk,
6 Virginia, the son of Durward and Martha Hodge; he was the
7 Senior Pastor of Orchard Valley Community Church (formerly
8 Aurora First Assembly of God) in Aurora for the past 27 years;
9 and
 
10     WHEREAS, His ministry did not end at the sanctuary door;
11 his mission and his vision for his life was to reach out and
12 connect with non-church people; and
 
13     WHEREAS, In 1991, he became one of Aurora's police
14 department's chaplains, alternately counseling officers and
15 victims' families through the stress of violence and crime;
16 race, social status, and religious or political affiliation did
17 not matter to him; he worked to change the climate by bringing
18 ex-gang members to speak at East Aurora High School and helped
19 to start the Warehouse Church in Aurora; and
 
20     WHEREAS, The passing of Reverend Larry D. Hodge will be
21 felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife of 38
22 years, Loudene Hodge; his mother, Martha Hodge; his brother,
23 Russell and Karlene Hodge; his sister, Judy and Bob Kerico; his
24 son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Amanda Hodge; his daughter
25 and son-in-law, Kellie and Thomas Reinke; his grandchildren,
26 Ian Thomas Reinke, Elise Lee Hodge, and Julia Mei Hodge;
27 therefore, be it
 
28     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
29 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that together with his
30 family, friends, and members of his church and community, we

1 mourn the death of Reverend Larry D. Hodge, who will be
2 remembered for his laugh, priceless smile, words of wisdom, and
3 most of all, his talks about God's extravagant love; and be it
4 further
 
5     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to the family of Reverend Larry D. Hodge as an
7 expression of our deepest sympathy.
