2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate of the State of | ||||||
3 | Illinois were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Robert | ||||||
4 | "Bob" H. Jarrell of Naperville on September 1, 2004; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Mr. Jarrell was born on July 16, 1923 in | ||||||
6 | Harrisburg; he graduated from Harrisburg Township High School | ||||||
7 | in 1941; Mr. Jarrell earned a business administration degree | ||||||
8 | from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1946 and | ||||||
9 | received a master's degree in management from the Illinois | ||||||
10 | Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicago in 1961; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Mr. Jarrell was employed at the Illinois Institute | ||||||
12 | of Technology from 1951 to 1983, first as the Institute's | ||||||
13 | comptroller, and then as its business manager; he was also a | ||||||
14 | lecturer in accounting at IIT; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Mr. Jarrell served as treasurer of Argonne | ||||||
16 | University Associates from 1979 to 1983; he established a | ||||||
17 | management consulting business, Robert H. Jarrell and | ||||||
18 | Associates, from 1983 to 1989; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Mr. Jarrell was considered a fixture in Lisle | ||||||
20 | Township political circles for more than thirty years; he | ||||||
21 | served as Lisle Township Clerk from 1973 to 1989 and was | ||||||
22 | elected Lisle Township Supervisor from 1989 to 1997; he was | ||||||
23 | also the chairman of the Lisle Township Republican Organization | ||||||
24 | from 1976 to 1978; at the time of his death, Mr. Jarrell was | ||||||
25 | serving as a DuPage County jury commissioner for the | ||||||
26 | twenty-ninth year; and
| ||||||
27 | WHEREAS, Mr. Jarrell took leadership roles with the Chicago | ||||||
28 | Salvation Army Settlement and the Chicago Unit of the American | ||||||
29 | Cancer Society; Mr. Jarrell was also chairman of the Education | ||||||
30 | Division of the Illinois Cancer Crusade; in addition, he was a |

1 | longtime member of the Financial Executives Institute, for | ||||||
2 | which he served as secretary in 1964 and 1965, the | ||||||
3 | Illinois-Wisconsin Section of the National Association of | ||||||
4 | Educational Buyers, for which he served as secretary-treasurer | ||||||
5 | in 1969 and chairman in 1971, and both the National and Central | ||||||
6 | Associations of College and University Business Officers; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Mr. Jarrell had been active in the Naperville YMCA | ||||||
8 | Indian Guides program, an activity that he shared with his sons | ||||||
9 | during their youth, and was a member of the Naperville | ||||||
10 | Municipal Band, playing drums in the 1950s; he was also one of | ||||||
11 | the earliest members of the Naperville Jaycees; he served with | ||||||
12 | the Naperville Crusade of Mercy, now known as the Naperville | ||||||
13 | United Way, and was the treasurer and a board member of | ||||||
14 | Naperville Community Television; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, In 1980, Mr. Jarrell joined Rotary One in Chicago | ||||||
16 | and after retirement, he was inducted into the Rotary Club of | ||||||
17 | Naperville in 1983; he was a member of Grace United Methodist | ||||||
18 | Church in Naperville; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, The passing of Robert H. Jarrell will be deeply | ||||||
20 | felt by many, especially his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth J.; | ||||||
21 | his daughter, Katherine Reuter; his sons, Michael, Steven, and | ||||||
22 | Peter; his grandchildren, Christopher, Timothy, Brian, Diana, | ||||||
23 | Jennifer, Kenneth, and Forrest; and his brother, John L.; and
| ||||||
24 | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, John and | ||||||
25 | Catherine Jarrell; and his brother, Frank; therefore, be it
| ||||||
26 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
27 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of | ||||||
28 | Robert "Bob" | ||||||
H. Jarrell along with all who knew and loved him | |||||||
29 | and extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends; | ||||||
30 | and be it further
