| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Mildred Christensen on |
4 |
| August 14, 2004; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Mildred was born on a farm in Libertyville on |
6 |
| October 6, 1921 to Joseph and Kazmira Balonis; she graduated |
7 |
| from Waukegan High School in 1939; she worked at the Ship |
8 |
| Service Department at Great Lakes Naval Training Center in the |
9 |
| 1940s; she was a volunteer for the Red Cross during World War |
10 |
| II; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, On April 30, 1947, she married John Christensen, a |
12 |
| Purple Heart veteran; they had four children; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, She worked for over 30 years for Waukegan Township |
14 |
| and Lake County; from 1950 to 1963, she worked for various |
15 |
| offices, including the Board of Review, Supervisor of |
16 |
| Assessments, and the Lake County Treasurer's office; in 1963, |
17 |
| she worked for the Waukegan Township Assessor's Office as a |
18 |
| secretary for Francis "Pat" Corrigan and, in 1973, the Waukegan |
19 |
| Township Board appointed her "First Woman" as assessor to |
20 |
| finish the term of Pat Corrigan; in 1974, she worked for the |
21 |
| Lake County Treasurer's Office and she retired in 1983; and
|
22 |
| WHEREAS, After retiring, Mildred was a volunteer worker for |
23 |
| Meals on Wheels; she enjoyed spending her retirement with her |
24 |
| family and friends; she especially enjoyed watching her |
25 |
| grandchildren; and
|
26 |
| WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband, John |
27 |
| Christensen, who passed away in 1998, and by her son, John |
28 |
| Christensen, Jr., who passed away in 1982; and
|
29 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Mildred Christensen will be felt by |
