SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, It is with profound sadness that the members of
3 the Senate of the State of Illinois learned of the death of
4 U.S. Army Sergeant Christopher Allen Wagener of Fairview
5 Heights, Illinois, who died while proudly serving his country
6 in Iraq; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Christopher Wagener was born on July 22, 1979, in
8 Peoria, Illinois to Kenneth and Dani Wagener; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Christopher Wagener entered the U.S. Army just 2
10 weeks after his 1998 graduation from Belleville East High
11 School; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Christopher Wagener obtained the rank of Sergeant
13 and was a member of the 10th Mountain Division, Company C, 10th
14 Aviation Brigade, where he served as a helicopter repair
15 technician and had goals of becoming a pilot; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Sergeant Wagener served tours of duty around the
17 world, including Germany, Bosnia, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan,
18 and Iraq; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Sergeant Wagener was a dedicated soldier who,
20 after 6 years in the Army, had the opportunity to leave the
21 service, but chose to re-enlist in February of 2004, even while
22 he was serving in hostile conditions; and
 
23     WHEREAS, On July 1, 2004, Sergeant Christopher Allen
24 Wagener was killed in the line of duty when his vehicle struck
25 a land mine while en route to Mosul, Iraq; and
 
26     WHEREAS, The passing of Sergeant Wagener has been deeply
27 felt by many, especially his parents, Kenneth and Dani Wagener;
28 his sister, Michelle (Aaron) Friederich; his paternal

1 grandmother, Gloria Wagener; his maternal grandmother, Marian
2 DelVecchio; his niece, Taylor Friederich; and his many aunts,
3 uncles, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
4     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
5 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor U.S. Army
6 Sergeant Christopher Allen Wagener for his commitment,
7 dedication, and sacrifice in the service of his family,
8 community, and country; and be it further
 
9     RESOLVED, That we mourn the death of Sergeant Wagener, and
10 we extend our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all
11 who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
12     RESOLVED, That we pray for the safety and well-being of
13 Sergeant Wagener's fellow service members as they continue to
14 stand in harm's way in service to their country; and be it
15 further
 
16     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to the family of Sergeant Christopher Allen Wagener
18 as an expression of our sincerest condolences.
