| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with regret and sadness of the death of Staff Sergeant |
4 |
| William D. Chaney of Schaumburg on Tuesday, May 18, 2004; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Chaney valiantly served his |
6 |
| country as a crew chief in B Company of the 1st Battalion, |
7 |
| 106th Aviation Regiment of the United States Army; he had been |
8 |
| serving in Iraq for over two months before becoming ill; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, Since the company's mobilization during the month |
10 |
| of December, Staff Sergeant Chaney stood out among soldiers; |
11 |
| from March 1, 2004 to April 29, 2004, he flew on 42 missions |
12 |
| and logged over 100 hours of combat time; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, Flying so many hours over such a short period of |
14 |
| time is one of the many examples of Sergeant Chaney's |
15 |
| dedication and exceptional work ethic; he applied his technical |
16 |
| knowledge, judgement, and common sense everyday toward |
17 |
| ensuring that whatever needed to be done was done; and
|
18 |
| WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Chaney was known to always put |
19 |
| others first; he selflessly challenged, trained, and mentored |
20 |
| the soldiers around him; he led by example; and
|
21 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Staff Sergeant Chaney has been |
22 |
| deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Carol; therefore, be |
23 |
| it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL |
25 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
26 |
| Sergeant William D. Chaney, a soldier whose influence on the |
27 |
| lives and attitudes of those he served with will live; and be |
28 |
