| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate were saddened |
3 |
| to learn of the death of Dr. Peter J. McFarlane of Godfrey on |
4 |
| May 18, 2004; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Peter McFarlane was born Jan. 27, 1918, in Moline |
6 |
| the son of the late John and Cora (Davis) McFarlane; he married |
7 |
| the former Bertha Lucille Biondolino on December 26, 1942, at |
8 |
| the former St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Alton; and |
9 |
| WHEREAS, A longtime Alton area physician, he was a graduate |
10 |
| of Marquette Catholic High School, Shurtleff College, and the |
11 |
| University of Illinois Medical School; he served his internship |
12 |
| at St. Margaret's Hospital in Hammond, Indiana, and his |
13 |
| residency at Fitzsimmons Hospital in Denver, Colorado; and |
14 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. McFarlane served his country in the United |
15 |
| States Army Medical Corps during World War II and began his |
16 |
| Alton medical practice in 1952, retiring in 1984; he served as |
17 |
| chief of obstetrics and chief of staff at the former St. |
18 |
| Joseph's Hospital in Alton and remained as a medical consultant |
19 |
| at St. Anthony's until 2000; and |
20 |
| WHEREAS, He was a longtime member of the former St. |
21 |
| Patrick's Catholic Church in Alton and St. Ambrose Catholic |
22 |
| Church in Godfrey; he was also a member of the American College |
23 |
| of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a diplomate of the American |
24 |
| Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology; and |
25 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. McFarlane was devoted to his family; in his |
26 |
| spare time he enjoyed carpentry, reading, and dancing; and |
27 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Dr. Peter McFarlane will be deeply |
28 |
| felt by many, especially his
beloved wife of nearly 62 years, |
29 |
| Bertha; his 11 children and their spouses, Margaret Guccione, |
