| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with great sadness of the untimely death of Mary Jo |
4 |
| Novak of Rock Island on Sunday, April 25, 2004; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Mary Jo was born on November 29, 1954, in Decorah, |
6 |
| Iowa, to Robert and Iona (Zweibahmer) Kubesh; she married Larry |
7 |
| Novak on July 6, 1974, in Calmer, Iowa; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, Ms. Novak received her bachelor's degree in |
9 |
| elementary education with a minor in reading, language arts, |
10 |
| and social studies from Marycrest University in 1988, cum |
11 |
| laude; she earned a master's degree in education administration |
12 |
| from Western Illinois University; she also held an |
13 |
| administrative certificate; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, Since 1991, Ms. Novak had been employed at Lincoln |
15 |
| Elementary School in Rock Island, where she was building |
16 |
| supervisor for both the Minority Teacher's Inventive Program |
17 |
| and the Reading is Fundamental Program; she had recently been |
18 |
| named principal of Thomas Jefferson Elementary School; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, Ms. Novak leaves behind many lasting memories and |
20 |
| legacies, one of them her never ending enthusiasm; she enjoyed |
21 |
| coordinating a "book room" where teachers could check out books |
22 |
| based on their students' reading level; and
|
23 |
| WHEREAS, Ms. Novak was a member of St. Pius X Catholic |
24 |
| Church in Rock Island; she was proud of her children and their |
25 |
| many accomplishments; she took pride in cultivating close |
26 |
| personal relationships with her friends and colleagues, and she |
27 |
| was a "rock" for many of her friends and was always willing to |
28 |
| lend an ear; and
|
29 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Mary Jo Novak has been deeply felt |
