| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Ivan Walter Schroeder of |
4 |
| Galesburg on Sunday, May 2, 2004; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Schroeder was born on December 15, 1919, in |
6 |
| Hancock, Iowa, to Walter Henry and Ella Dorothea Woltmann |
7 |
| Schroeder; he married Veta Burnett Marshall on November 23, |
8 |
| 1940, in Lewis, Iowa; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Schroeder valiantly served his country from |
10 |
| 1944 to 1946 during World War II in the U.S. Army, attaining |
11 |
| the rank of corporal; he was a member of Company D of the 745th |
12 |
| Railroad Operating Battalion; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Schroeder worked for Iowa State Telephone Co. |
14 |
| from 1938 to 1942; from 1942 until retiring in 1980, he worked |
15 |
| as an engineer for the CB&Q Railroad in Galesburg, which later |
16 |
| became Burlington Northern Railroad; he was a member of the |
17 |
| Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Division 644; he was also a |
18 |
| member of First United Methodist Church in Galesburg; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Ivan Walter Schroeder has been |
20 |
| deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Veta Burnett |
21 |
| Marshall; his daughters, Delores (and Jack) Howerter, Karen |
22 |
| (and Gary) Thomas, and Janice (and Neill) Unger; his brothers, |
23 |
| Dexter, Lloyd, and Howard; his sister, Dorothy Keller; his 5 |
24 |
| grandchildren; his 3 step-grandchildren; his 2 |
25 |
| great-grandchildren; and his 5 step-great-grandchildren; |

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL |

| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |

| Ivan Walter Schroeder, and we extend our sincere condolences to |

| his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
