SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 mourn the death of Howard L. Sims of Pana who passed away on
4 May 8, 2004; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born May 6, 1926, in Tower Hill, the son of
6 Howard W. and Geneva Haverstock Sims; he married Myrtle L.
7 Denton in 1947 in Pana; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Mr. Sims graduated from Pana Township High School
9 and the Police Training Institute at Champaign; he served as
10 chief of police in Pana from 1971-75; he worked as a deputy
11 sheriff of the Christian County Sheriff's Office from 1975
12 until his retirement in 1993; he served as chief deputy from
13 1998-2000; in addition, he was a certified state electrical
14 hosting engineer and a retired cement finisher of International
15 OP&CMIA; and
 
16     WHEREAS, He was a member of Pana VFW Post 4431 and Oconee
17 Roy Ireland American Legion Post 317; he was a charter member
18 of the Illinois Sheriff's Association and a charter and life
19 member of AMVETS Post 44; he was a charter member of the Full
20 Gospel Church in Pana, where he held several positions,
21 including board member, trustee, youth leader, and Sunday
22 school teacher; Mr. Sims was a United States Marine Corps and
23 Reserves veteran of World War II, serving in the central
24 Pacific area; he also served as a drill instructor during the
25 Korean War; and
 
26     WHEREAS, The passing of Howard L. Sims will be deeply felt
27 by his wife, Myrtle; his five sons, Larry (wife, Cheryl) Sims,
28 Randy (wife, Annette) Sims, Greg (wife, Lisa) Sims, Brad (wife,
29 Sharon) Sims, and Tim (wife, Lisa) Sims; his 17 grandchildren;
30 his 8 great-grandchildren; his 2 brothers, Lyle Sims and Rev.
31 Dale Sims; and his 3 sisters, Ida Mae Bland, Geneva Denton, and

2     WHEREAS, His son, Gary Leon Sims, preceded him in death;
3 therefore, be it
 
4     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
5 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of
6 Howard L. Sims along with all who knew and loved him and extend
7 our sincere condolences to his family and friends; and be it
8 further
 
9     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 presented to the family of Howard L. Sims as a token of our
11 deepest sympathy.
