| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| were saddened to learn of the death of Emmett V. McNamara Sr. |
4 |
| of Villa Park on Wednesday, March 3, 2004; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. McNamara was born in 1926 in Villa Park; he |
6 |
| attended York High School in Elmhurst; he married Jeanne |
7 |
| McNamara in 1964; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. McNamara was a great patriot and defended his |
9 |
| country during World War II in the U.S. Army; he served in the |
10 |
| Asiatic-Pacific Theater as a corporal; he was honorably |
11 |
| discharged in January of 1947 having earned the Asiatic-Pacific |
12 |
| Theater Ribbon, the Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and |
13 |
| the Army of Occupation Medal for Japan; upon his return home, |
14 |
| he became an electrician; and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. McNamara was a devoted union activist for many |
16 |
| years; he was a member of the International Brotherhood of |
17 |
| Electrical Workers Local 701 from 1967 to 1990 and represented |
18 |
| the interests of that union in State government for nearly 40 |
19 |
| years; and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, In his work as a lobbyist for the I.B.E.W., Mr. |
21 |
| McNamara was a staunch ally of blue collar working families and |
22 |
| was instrumental in the passing of much legislation that |
23 |
| benefitted all of the hard-working citizens of Illinois; and
|
24 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. McNamara was a former acting chairman and |
25 |
| member of the DuPage Airport Authority; he was a devoted family |
26 |
| man, and he believed that if every person would help his or her |
27 |
| neighbor, no person would be without help; to his friends in |
28 |
| Springfield, he was known as "Smokey"; and

| WHEREAS, The passing of Emmett V. McNamara Sr. has been |
