| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| were saddened to learn of the death of Carmelo Mercado of |
4 |
| Chicago on Friday, March 19, 2004; and |
5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Mercado was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico |
6 |
| on August 10, 1966, and resided in the Humboldt Park Community |
7 |
| for many years; and |
8 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Mercado was a faithful and devoted member of |
9 |
| Pan de Vida (Bread of Life) Church, where he served as an |
10 |
| Associate Pastor and through his testimony, preaching and |
11 |
| teaching, many came to know the Lord; and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Mercado was a dedicated employee of ASPIRA of |
13 |
| Illinois' Miguel del Valle Youth Development Center for two |
14 |
| years, holding the position of Youth Mentoring Program |
15 |
| Coordinator; he also mentored students at Nobel, de Diego, and |
16 |
| Sabin Elementary Schools, and Steinmetz High School; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Mercado is remembered as a loving son, |
18 |
| brother, husband, father, uncle, godfather, friend, and |
19 |
| neighbor who touched the lives of all who knew him; and |
20 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Mercado is survived by his proud parents, Luis |
21 |
| Manuel and Rosa Mercado; his devoted wife, Digna Maria Perez; |
22 |
| his loving daughter, Jelisa Mercado; his loving sons, Joshua |
23 |
| and Marcus Mercado; and his brothers, sisters, nieces, and |
24 |
| nephews; therefore be it |

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL |

| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of |
27 |
| Carmelo Mercado along with his family and friends; and be it |
28 |
| further
