| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Mary Rita Madigan of |
4 |
| Chicago on Tuesday, December 23, 2003; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Madigan was born on December 27, 1912; she |
6 |
| married Michael J. Madigan, who preceded her in death in the |
7 |
| 1970s; she was a longtime Chicago resident and the mother of |
8 |
| the Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives, Michael |
9 |
| J. Madigan; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Madigan worked as an accountant for Brogan |
11 |
| Coal and Ice Co., but spent most of her life as a homemaker; |
12 |
| she was active in her son's early campaigns; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Madigan lived on Chicago's Southwest Side and |
14 |
| was known among neighbors for her own accomplishments, |
15 |
| including her chocolate chip cookies; she loved to shop and |
16 |
| kept up on current events; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Mary Rita Madigan has been deeply |
18 |
| felt by many, especially her son, Michael J. and his wife, |
19 |
| Shirley; her daughter, Marita McGivney and her husband, Jack; |
20 |
| her grandchildren, John Dietrick, Illinois Attorney General |
21 |
| Lisa Madigan, Tiffany Madigan, Nicole Madigan, and Andrew |
22 |
| Madigan; and her great-grandchildren, Mary Rose and John; |
23 |
| therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL |
25 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
26 |
| Mary Rita Madigan, and we extend our deepest sympathy to her |
27 |
| friends, family, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
28 |
| further
