093_SR0309 LRB093 14133 HSS 19623 r 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of 3 Illinois learned with regret of the death of James C. 4 Bonfield of Downers Grove on Saturday, October 25, 2003; and 5 WHEREAS, Mr. Bonfield was born in Chicago and raised in 6 Bellwood; he graduated in 1968 from Proviso West High School 7 and attended Western Illinois University, where he received a 8 bachelor of science degree in education in 1972; he married 9 his high school sweetheart, Annette, the same year; and 10 WHEREAS, In 1972, he joined the Downers Grove South High 11 School staff as a physical education and general science 12 teacher; he went on to teach health education and was one of 13 the first at his school to implement a health education 14 curriculum that he had written; and 15 WHEREAS, Mr. Bonfield loved sports and coached all levels 16 of football as well as wrestling; in 1980, he became a dean 17 of students and was named head dean in 1994; and 18 WHEREAS, Mr. Bonfield was a member of Divine Savior 19 Catholic Church and past president of the Illinois State 20 Deans' Association; he was a two-time recipient of the Those 21 Who Excel award given by the Illinois State Board of 22 Education; he also was a negotiator for the Downers Grove 23 Education Association; and 24 WHEREAS, In later years, Mr. Bonfield received a master's 25 degree in health education from George Williams College and a 26 certificate of advanced study from the University of 27 Illinois; and 28 WHEREAS, The passing of Mr. Bonfield has been deeply felt 29 by many, especially his wife, Annette; his son, James; and 30 his mother, Eleanor; therefore, be it -2- LRB093 14133 HSS 19623 r 1 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL 2 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing 3 of a man who dedicated his life to the education of young 4 people, and we extend our sincerest condolences to his 5 family, friends, former students, colleagues, and all who 6 knew and loved him; and be it further 7 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 8 presented to the family of Mr. Bonfield as an expression of 9 our deepest sympathy.
