 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, Pharmacy is one of  the  oldest  of  the  health
 3    professions  concerned  with the health and well-being of all
 4    people; and

 5        WHEREAS,  Today,  there  are  over  195,000   pharmacists
 6    practicing  in the United States providing services to assure
 7    the rational and safe use of all medications; and

 8        WHEREAS, The use  of  medications,  as  a  cost-effective
 9    alternative to more expensive medical procedures, is becoming
10    a major force in moderating overall health care costs; and

11        WHEREAS,  Today's  powerful  medications  require greater
12    attention to the manner in which they are used  by  different
13    patient    population    groups,    both    clinically    and
14    demographically; and

15        WHEREAS,  It is important that all users of prescriptions
16    and non prescription medications,  or  their  caregivers,  be
17    knowledgeable  about  and  share responsibility for their own
18    drug therapy; and

19        WHEREAS,  The  American  Pharmacists   Association,   the
20    Illinois Pharmacists Association, and the Joint Commission of
21    Pharmacy  Practitioners, have declared the final and complete
22    week of October as National  Pharmacy  Week  with  the  theme
23    "Know Your Medicines-Know Your Pharmacist"; therefore, be it

24        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
25    ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we  proclaim  October
26    19-25,  2003  as National Pharmacy Week and urge all citizens
27    to  acknowledge  the  valuable  services  of  pharmacists  to
28    provide safe, affordable, and beneficial pharmaceutical  care
29    services and products to all citizens; and be it further

30        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
