093_SR0273 LRB093 13517 RAH 18850 r 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of 3 Illinois learned with regret of the passing of Bernadette 4 "Bunny" Cline, founder and executive director of the Chicago 5 Myeloma Foundation, on Wednesday, September 3, 2003; and 6 WHEREAS, Bernadette Cline's first cancer diagnosis came 7 30 years ago, not long after being named Ms. Chicago; the 8 diagnosis wasn't her last, however, as Hodgkin's disease was 9 followed by lymphoma, cervical cancer, and multiple myeloma; 10 and 11 WHEREAS, Ms. Cline's three-decade survival far surpassed 12 doctors' expectations, inspiring others and allowing her to 13 launch the Chicago Myeloma Foundation in 2000; Ms. Cline 14 served as executive director of the myeloma foundation; the 15 foundation serves patients in the Midwest, a group Ms. Cline 16 felt was underserved by existing myeloma groups on both 17 coasts; she was always an advocate of getting some knowledge 18 to the patient so they understood all the possible outcomes 19 and what all the possibilities were; and 20 WHEREAS, In addition to the foundation, Ms. Cline was 21 involved in support groups and scheduling speakers to inform 22 the public about myeloma; she was also an advocate of a 23 woman's rights in the workplace; and 24 WHEREAS, Last year, she and State Senator Peter Roskam 25 secured a grant for more than $175,000 from the State for 26 multiple myeloma research at Northwestern University; and 27 WHEREAS, Throughout her life, Bernadette Cline was 28 supported by her devoted husband, Tim Rinkoski; therefore, be 29 it 30 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL 31 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with -2- LRB093 13517 RAH 18850 r 1 all who knew and loved her, the death of Bernadette "Bunny" 2 Cline of Downers Grove; and be it further 3 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 4 presented to the family of Bernadette "Bunny" Cline with our 5 sincerest condolences.
