 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members  of  the  Senate  of  the  State  of
 3    Illinois  were saddened to learn of the death of Arthur Boyd,
 4    Jr. of Batavia; and

 5        WHEREAS, Mr. Boyd was known  as  a  trailblazer  who  was
 6    dedicated to making Batavia a stronger community; and

 7        WHEREAS, Mr. Boyd served on the city council from 1969 to
 8    1989  and he was the first black alderman in Batavia, as well
 9    as Kane County; and

10        WHEREAS, During his five terms on the council, he  worked
11    to upgrade 4th Ward streets, championed open-housing policies
12    and  was a major supporter of the city's decision to purchase
13    the building that became the Batavia  Government  Center;  he
14    was  noted  for an exemplary attendance record at council and
15    committee meetings; and

16        WHEREAS, Mr. Boyd served as the chairman  of  the  Public
17    Safety  Committee  and  was  instrumental  in the decision to
18    place the West Side Fire Station near  Batavia  High  School;
19    and

20        WHEREAS,  Mr. Boyd's passing will be deeply felt by many,
21    especially his wife, Marian; his sons, Arthur  Boyd  III  and
22    Jeffery Boyd; and five grandsons; therefore, be it

23        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
24    ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the  passing
25    of  Arthur Boyd Jr. along with all who knew and loved him and
26    extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends; and
27    be it further

28        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
29    presented  to the family of Arthur Boyd, Jr. as an expression
30    of our deepest sympathy.
