093_SR0252 LRB093 13218 KEF 18486 r 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of 3 Illinois mourn the recent passing of Prince Philipp-Ernst of 4 Germany; and 5 WHEREAS, In July 1928, Friedrich August Philipp-Ernst 6 Wolrad was born at Hagenburg Castle as the second son of 7 Prince Ernst Wolrad and Princess Bathildis; and 8 WHEREAS, Prince Philipp-Ernst attended the elementary 9 school in Hagenburg; he is the first from the house of 10 Schaumburg who went through a "completely normal school 11 career"; he attended the gymnasium in Steinhude and, because 12 of the war, other colleges such as Spiekeroog; and 13 WHEREAS, When his older brother died in the war, Prince 14 Philipp-Ernst became the hereditary prince; he obtained his 15 bachelor's degree in 1949 in Bad Godesberg; he went on to 16 study the political sciences at the University of Freiburg, 17 where he met his future wife, Eva Benita Lady Von 18 Tiele-Winckler; they were married in October 1955 in the 19 Chapel of Bueckeburg Castle; and 20 WHEREAS, In 1956, they had their first child, Prince 21 Georg-Wilhelm, who was born in Freiburg and preceded them in 22 death in 1983; in 1958 they moved into Schloss Bueckeburg and 23 welcomed another son, Prince Alexander, who was born in 24 Duesseldorf; and 25 WHEREAS, After the passing of his father in 1962, Prince 26 Philipp-Ernst became Prince of Schaumburg-Lippe; he worked as 27 lord of the manor and superintendent of the 28 Schaumburg-Lippian family property; in addition to those 29 duties, he volunteered in various positions with the fire 30 department, civil guard, blood donation, and as president of 31 the homeland society, trustee of the Senior Citizens Aid -2- LRB093 13218 KEF 18486 r 1 Society Stadthagen, and patron of the Reformed Church 2 Congregations of Bueckeburg and Stadthagen; he was a 3 passionate hunter, skier, and tennis player; therefore, be it 4 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL 5 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing 6 of Prince Philipp-Ernst of Germany along with all who knew 7 and loved him and extend our sincere condolences to his 8 family and friends; and be it further 9 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 10 presented to the family of Prince Philipp-Ernst of Germany.
