093_SR0221 LRB093 12842 HSS 18066 r 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of 3 Illinois were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Arthur 4 E. Giddings of Willowbrook on Monday, July 21, 2003; and 5 WHEREAS, Mr. Giddings spent his early childhood in 6 LaGrange before moving with his family to Downers Grove, 7 where he graduated from high school in 1948; he attended the 8 University of Denver, where he received a bachelor's degree 9 in hotel and restaurant management in 1952; and 10 WHEREAS, Mr. Giddings worked for several years as a 11 manager for Harding-Williams Food Service, an industrial 12 catering company in Chicago; in the early 1960s, he became an 13 executive with Interpoint Corp., a food-service company that 14 built restaurants along highways; and 15 WHEREAS, Mr. Giddings moved to Hinsdale in 1965, where he 16 became active within the village, both as a parent and a 17 public servant; for several years, he was a member of the 18 Community Relations and Park and Recreation Committees of 19 Hinsdale; he served as a trustee on the Hinsdale Village 20 Board from 1975 to 1979; he held numerous posts in the local 21 youth sports league and was president of the McDonald's 22 Hinsdale Swim Club when his children were young; and 23 WHEREAS, During the early 1980s, Mr. Giddings played an 24 important role in founding the Hinsdale Center for the Arts; 25 after serving as its president in the early years, he became 26 a lifetime trustee in 1999; and 27 WHEREAS, Mr. Giddings retired in 1996; during his 28 retirement, he helped manage his son's golf course in Stevens 29 Point, Wisconsin; and 30 WHEREAS, The passing of Mr. Giddings has been deeply felt 31 by many, especially his wife, Barbara; his sons, James and -2- LRB093 12842 HSS 18066 r 1 Robert; and his four grandchildren; therefore, be it 2 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL 3 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing 4 of Arthur E. Giddings and extend our sincere condolences to 5 his family and friends; and be it further 6 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 7 presented to the family of Arthur E. Giddings as an 8 expression of our deepest sympathy.
