093_SR0188 LRB093 12176 HSS 17247 r 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of 3 Illinois were shocked and saddened to learn of the untimely 4 death of Ed Vogler on Sunday, May 25, 2003; and 5 WHEREAS, Mr. Vogler was born in Trenton, New Jersey; he 6 earned a bachelor's degree in meteorology from Rutgers 7 University, where he was recognized as a distinguished 8 graduate of the ROTC program; and 9 WHEREAS, Mr. Vogler joined the Air Force and attended 10 pilot training at Reese Air Force Base, where he was again 11 recognized as a distinguished graduate; at Norton Air Force 12 Base in Riverside, California, he was an aircraft commander 13 and instructor pilot; and 14 WHEREAS, In 1978, Mr. Vogler joined American Airlines as 15 a Boeing 727-200 flight engineer, based at LaGuardia Airport 16 in New York; he later was a 727 first officer, a 17 McDonnell-Douglas Super 80 captain, and, in 1996, a Boeing 18 767 international captain; and 19 WHEREAS, Since 1996, Mr. Vogler had served as one of four 20 chief pilots supervising 1,800 pilots based at O'Hare 21 International Airport; during the military's recent Iraqi 22 Freedom campaign, Mr. Vogler served as a coordinator in 23 Germany for American Airlines' role in the government's Civil 24 Reserve Air Fleet, which helped to fly U.S. troops into 25 Middle East destinations; and 26 WHEREAS, The passing of Mr. Vogler has been deeply felt 27 by many, especially his wife, Eileen; his daughters, Laura 28 Marie, Jennifer Jean, and Kristen Ann; his mother, Charlotte 29 Vogler O'Toole; his brothers, Robert and Roland; and his 30 sisters, Charlotte Haxton and AnneMarie Horan; therefore, be 31 it -2- LRB093 12176 HSS 17247 r 1 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL 2 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing 3 of Ed Vogler and extend to his family and friends our sincere 4 condolences; and be it further 5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 6 presented to the family of Ed Vogler as an expression of our 7 deepest sympathy during their time of bereavement.
