 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members  of  the  Senate  of  the  State  of
 3    Illinois  were saddened to learn of the death of Deputy James
 4    J. "Jim" Mulay of Dunlap on Monday, May 19, 2003; and

 5        WHEREAS, Deputy Mulay died on duty in a two-vehicle crash
 6    at a rural Medina Township intersection; and

 7        WHEREAS, Born on August 14, 1972 in Peoria to  Joseph  J.
 8    III and Rita M. Plaza Mulay, Deputy Mulay married Katie Shane
 9    on July 4, 1998 in Peoria; and

10        WHEREAS,  Deputy  Mulay  worked  for  the  Peoria  County
11    Sheriff's Department, where he was comissioned as a deputy on
12    October 6, 1995, and was instrumental in developing the STATT
13    Team concept; and

14        WHEREAS,  He  was the recipient of the 2000 Peoria County
15    Deputy Sheriff Honors Board Distinguished Police Duty  Award,
16    letters  of  commendation  from the Sheriff's Department, and
17    several letters of appreciation from Peoria  County  citizens
18    and leaders; and

19        WHEREAS,  He  was  a  volunteer  for  the Dunlap Fire and
20    Rescue Squad for 15 years, where  he  attained  the  rank  of
21    captain;  he  was named Dunlap Fire and Rescue Fireman of the
22    Year in 1991 and recently passed the Fire/Arson Investigation
23    III Course conducted by the Illinois Fire  Service  Institute
24    at the University of Illinois; and

25        WHEREAS,   He  was  an  advisor  for  the  Peoria  County
26    Explorers  and  participated  in  the   1998   National   Law
27    Enforcement Explorer Conference in Maryland; and

28        WHEREAS,  He  was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in
29    Dunlap; and

30        WHEREAS, The passing  of  Deputy  James  Mulay  has  been

 1    deeply  felt by all who knew him, especially his wife, Katie;
 2    his children, Jacob and Joseph V; his parents,  Rita  M.  and
 3    Joseph  J.  Mulay  III;  and  his  brother,  Joseph Mulay IV;
 4    therefore, be it

 5        RESOLVED, BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-THIRD  GENERAL
 6    ASSEMBLY  OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing
 7    of Deputy James J. "Jim" Mulay and express  our  sincere  and
 8    deepest sympathy to his family and friends; and be it further

 9        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
10    presented to the  family  of  James  J.  "Jim"  Mulay  as  an
11    expression   of   our   condolences   during  their  time  of
12    bereavement.
