093_SR0099 LRB093 11392 KEF 13864 r 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of 3 Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of William 4 Barnett; and 5 WHEREAS, Mr. Barnett was born in Chicago to William 6 Julius Barnett, Sr. and Cleopatra Morrissette on November 29, 7 1917; and 8 WHEREAS, Mr. Barnett held many positions in his lifetime 9 including, Chicago Police Officer, Cook County Deputy 10 Sheriff, Insurance Auditor, and Alderman/Committeeman of the 11 Second Ward; he was the Founder and President of Midwest 12 Security Agency, Inc., the Douglas Development Corporation, 13 the William Barnett Youth Foundation, Lake Air Services at 14 Meigs Airport, and the New South Side Community Organization; 15 and 16 WHEREAS, Mr. Barnett was born a politician and his one 17 last accomplishment was as one of the black political leaders 18 in support of Governor Ron Blagojevich's election this past 19 year; and 20 WHEREAS, Mr. Barnett was a member in good standing of the 21 American Pilot's Association, the Illinois Chiefs 22 Association, the Associated Detectives, and was a Certified 23 Latent Print Technician; and 24 WHEREAS, Mr. Barnett confessed Christ and was a member of 25 the Pilgrim Baptist Church; and 26 WHEREAS, Mr. Barnett had four loves in his life Politics, 27 Law Enforcement, the Douglas Community, and his beloved wife 28 Esther; and 29 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by many, 30 especially his wife, Esther; his sister, Gwendolyn Simon; his -2- LRB093 11392 KEF 13864 r 1 sister-in-law, Virgie Barnett; and his many nieces, nephews, 2 relatives, and friends; therefore, be it 3 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL 4 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of 5 William Barnett along with all who knew and loved him and 6 extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends; and 7 be it further 8 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 9 presented to the family of William Barnett as an expression 10 of our deepest sympathy.
