093_SR0064 LRB093 11135 KEF 11943 r 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of 3 Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of Bernard J. 4 Milroy, Sr., 82, of Batavia who passed away on January 27, 5 2003; and 6 WHEREAS, Mr. Milroy was the second son of Mr. and Mrs. 7 Edward (Anna Hoban) Milroy of Batavia; and 8 WHEREAS, Mr. Milroy was a 1938 graduate of Marmion 9 Military Academy in Aurora and attended Loras College in 10 Dubuque, Iowa, on a basketball scholarship; he left Loras 11 College after two years, following the death of his father; 12 he was employed by the Burlington-Northern Railroad for over 13 40 years; and 14 WHEREAS, Mr. Milroy served as a 1st Lieutenant with the 15 220th Armored Engineers of the 20th Armored Division of the 16 U.S. Army in the European Theater of World War II; he was a 17 veteran of the "Battle of the Bulge"; his unit was the first 18 American unit to cross the Rhine River into Germany in 1945 19 and was among the liberating soldiers of the infamous Dachau 20 Concentration Camp near Munich, Germany; and 21 WHEREAS, Mr. Milroy was a lifelong member of Holy Cross 22 Catholic Church, a past Grand Knight of the Knights of 23 Columbus Council 2191, and a member of the Batavia Veterans 24 of Foreign Wars (Council 1197); and 25 WHEREAS, As an active member of the Marmion Academy 26 community, he was a recipient of the Academy's distinguished 27 alumnus award, the Centurion Award, and was a 1996 Marmion 28 Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee; and 29 WHEREAS, Mr. Milroy is survived by his wife of 54 years, 30 Farrell (Kennedy) Milroy; his nine children, Ms. Mary Milroy, 31 Mr. Bernard J. (Patricia) Milroy, Jr., Mrs. Peggy (Vincent) -2- LRB093 11135 KEF 11943 r 1 Bellafiore, Mrs. Jane (Robert) Bohr, Mrs. Patricia (Thomas) 2 White, Mrs. Maureen (John) Schultz, Mr. John K. (Susan) 3 Milroy, Mrs. Kathleen (Thomas) Heaton, and Mr. Timothy 4 (Tamarah) Milroy; his 30 grandchildren; his six 5 great-grandchildren; his brother, Mr. John E. (Valerie) 6 Milroy; and his nephew, Mr. John P. (Sandra) Milroy; and 7 WHEREAS, Mr. Milroy was preceded in death by his parents, 8 Edward and Anna Milroy; his sister, Catherine (William) Cook; 9 and his two other sisters who died in infancy; therefore, be 10 it 11 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL 12 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of 13 Bernard J. Milroy Sr. and extend our sincere condolences to 14 his family and friends; and be it further 15 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 16 presented to the family of Bernard J. Milroy Sr. as an 17 expression of our deepest sympathy.
