 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members  of  the  Senate  of  the  State  of
 3    Illinois are saddened at the tragic deaths of 21 young adults
 4    and the injury of 50 more people as a result of a stampede in
 5    a  crowded  nightclub  in  the  early morning of February 17,
 6    2003; and

 7        WHEREAS, Those who died in the panic ranged in  age  from
 8    19  to  43  years of age and their passing will forever alter
 9    the lives of their families, friends, and loved ones; and

10        WHEREAS, The 21 who died are: Nita Anthony; Robert Brown;
11    Demetrica  Carwell;  Bianca  Ferguson;  Kevin  Gayden;  Debra
12    Gill; Danielle Greene; Chanta Jackson; Teresa Johnson-Gordon;
13    David  Jones;  Charles  Lard;  LaTorya McGraw; Antonio Myers;
14    Nicole Patterson; Nicole Rainey; DaShand Ray;  Damien  Riley;
15    Charita  Rhodes;  Maurice Robinson; Eazay Rogers; and Michael
16    Wilson; and

17        WHEREAS, Hopefully this tragedy can lead to a  discussion
18    about  reducing violence in the African-American community to
19    make sure such a  devastating  tragedy  never  occurs  again;
20    therefore, be it

21        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
22    ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the loss  of
23    life  resulting from this tragic event and extend our sincere
24    condolences to the families of those who died on February 17,
25    2003; and be it further

26        RESOLVED, That  suitable  copies  of  this  preamble  and
27    resolution  be presented to the families of those who died as
28    an expression of our sorrow for their loss.
