 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members  of  the  Senate  of  the  State  of
 3    Illinois  were  saddened  to  learn of the death of Verna Mae
 4    Franklin on Tuesday, January 7, 2003; and

 5        WHEREAS, Ms. Franklin was born August 21, 1938 in Bolton,
 6    Mississippi to Albert Johnson and Louise  Johnson  Blackwell,
 7    the fourth of five children; she was baptized at an early age
 8    at Pilgrim Rest in Bolton, Mississippi; and

 9        WHEREAS,  Ms.  Franklin  attended Leath Elementary School
10    and Booker T. Washington High School in  Memphis,  Tennessee;
11    she married Troy Lee Franklin on November 3, 1956; and

12        WHEREAS,  The  passing  of  Verna  Mae  Franklin has been
13    deeply  felt  by  many,  especially  her  daughters,   Yvonne
14    (Kenneth) Davis, Carol (Chris) Davis, Cynthia Franklin, Cathy
15    Franklin,  and  Mary  Franklin;  her sons, Troy Lee Franklin,
16    Jr., Stanley (Ronda) Franklin,  and  Sam  Lee  Franklin;  her
17    sisters, Earnestine Marchbanks, Inez (John) Brown, and Maggie
18    Mae    (L.C.)    Price;   her   20   grandchildren;   her   6
19    great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Ada Wilder and Nancy
20    Jean Woodall; her brother-in-law, L.C. (Alice) Franklin;  and
21    a  host  of  nieces,  nephews,  cousins, other relatives, and
22    friends; therefore, be it

23        RESOLVED, BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-THIRD  GENERAL
24    ASSEMBLY  OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing
25    of Verna Mae Franklin and offer our sincerest condolences  to
26    her family and friends; and be it further

27        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
28    presented to the  family  of  Verna  Mae  Franklin  with  our
29    deepest sympathy.
