093_SR0036 LRB093 10675 HSS 11019 r 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of 3 Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of Bert E. 4 Cadney of Plato Center on Saturday, February 1, 2003; and 5 WHEREAS, Mr. Cadney was born and raised in Chicago; he 6 served in the United States Army in World War II, stationed 7 with a heavy construction battalion on Okinawa; and 8 WHEREAS, Mr. Cadney began his career with the Chicago 9 Transit Authority as a bus driver in 1947; he moved to the 10 photography department in the 1960s, eventually becoming the 11 supervisor of the department; his primary duty as a 12 photographer for the CTA was to support the claims department 13 by documenting accidents involving buses or trains, capturing 14 skid marks and other telling details on film; he was 15 nicknamed "Flash" by his co-workers when he succeeded in 16 capturing a barely visible hairline fracture in a structural 17 support system with his camera; he retired in 1985 after 38 18 years of service with the CTA; and 19 WHEREAS, Mr. Cadney met his wife, Ernestine, at the CTA 20 and they were married in 1982 at Chicago's Drake Hotel; he 21 enjoyed horseback riding with his wife and was always taking 22 photographs; he even snapped a few pictures at their wedding; 23 and 24 WHEREAS, Mr. Drake was a member of the Kane County 25 Rangers Mounted Patrol and the Fox Valley Saddle Association; 26 he loved electronic gadgets of all kinds; he was a ham radio 27 operator and spoke with people in many states and countries; 28 he will be remembered for his strong sense of humor; and 29 WHEREAS, The passing of Mr. Cadney has been deeply felt 30 by many, especially his wife, Ernestine; his children, 31 Bertram and Eric; his granddaughter, Nina Cadney; and his -2- LRB093 10675 HSS 11019 r 1 cousins and many friends; therefore, be it 2 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL 3 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing 4 of Bert Cadney and offer our sincerest condolences to his 5 family and friends; and be it further 6 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 7 presented to the family of Bert Cadney with our deepest 8 sympathy.
