093_SR0024 LRB093 10602 HSS 10856 r 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of 3 Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of Melvin Edward 4 Davis on Friday, January 24, 2003; and 5 WHEREAS, Mr. Davis was born on August 30, 1946 in Chicago 6 to James Andrews and Mattie Henry; his stepfather was 7 Clarence Tyler, who raised him as his own; all three of his 8 parents preceded him in death; and 9 WHEREAS, Mr. Davis was a Farragut Admiral Alumnus and a 10 student of Harold Washington College; he worked in the social 11 service field for many years; he held several positions that 12 consisted of educating children of various ages and 13 supervising adult sport activities; he was employed at the 14 Duncan YMCA, and for 17 years at Marcy-Newberry Association; 15 he was a faithful employee until his health failed; and 16 WHEREAS, Mr. Davis met and joined in love with Ann E. 17 Bunch; they had one son, Melvin Davis Jr.; he enjoyed music, 18 playing basketball, watching sports, and supporting his son 19 on teh side line at some of his many athletic events; and 20 WHEREAS, Mr. Davis will be remembered as a loving and 21 caring father; he cherished the time and relationship he 22 built with his siblings and enjoyed entertaining family and 23 friends on many occasions; and 24 WHEREAS, The passing of Mr. Davis has been deeply felt by 25 many, especially his loving companion, Ann; his three sons, 26 Melvin Jr., Terrence (Kisha), and Christopher; his two 27 daughters, Tracey and Stephanie; his five grandchildren, 28 Rakita, Tyericka, Telvin, Trevyeon, and Princess Isis; his 29 three brothers, James (Lydia), Richard, and John; his two 30 sisters, Catherine and Elizabeth; his aunt, Ida Mae; his 31 god-sister, JoAnn; his two mother figures, Ms. Betty and Ms. -2- LRB093 10602 HSS 10856 r 1 Tyler; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special 2 friends; therefore, be it 3 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL 4 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing 5 of Melvin Edward Davis and offer our sincerest condolences to 6 his family and friends; and be it further 7 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 8 presented to the family of Melvin Edward Davis with our 9 deepest sympathy.
