SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 310/5-16 new

    Amends the Department of Human Services (Alcoholism and Substance Abuse) Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Directs the Department to study the costs and benefits of establishing a specific treatment methodology for people suffering from both mental illness and substance abuse. Requires a report to the Governor and the General Assembly by February 1, 2005. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning the treatment of substance abuse.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Department of Human Services (Alcoholism and
5 Substance Abuse) Law of the Civil Administrative Code of
6 Illinois is amended by adding Section 5-16 as follows:
 
7     (20 ILCS 310/5-16 new)
8     Sec. 5-16. Study of treatment methodology. The Department
9 shall study the benefits of establishing a preferred treatment
10 methodology for people suffering from both mental illness and
11 substance abuse. If the Department determines that such a
12 methodology is appropriate, it shall propose a preferred
13 methodology and estimate the costs of providing treatment
14 according to that methodology. The Department shall report its
15 conclusions and findings to the Governor and the General
16 Assembly by February 1, 2005.
 
17     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
18 becoming law.
