Amends the Department of Public Health Powers and Duties Law of the
Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Requires the Department of Public Health, in cooperation with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, to examine whether, and the extent to which, past environmental exposures might increase the risk of several chronic diseases, including birth defects, heart disease, cancer, asthma and other respiratory conditions, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, and other neurological degenerative diseases. Requires a report by December 31, 2005.

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|

| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Department of Public Health Powers and |

| Duties Law of the
Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is |

| amended by adding Section 2310-515 as follows:
|

| Sec. 2310-515. Examination of effect of environmental |
| 9 |
| exposures on chronic diseases. The Department of Public Health, |
| 10 |
| in cooperation with the Illinois Environmental Protection |
| 11 |
| Agency, shall examine whether, and the extent to which, past |
| 12 |
| environmental exposures might increase the risk of several |
| 13 |
| chronic diseases, including birth defects, heart disease, |
| 14 |
| cancer, asthma and other respiratory conditions, Parkinson's |
| 15 |
| disease, Alzheimer's disease, and other neurological |
| 16 |
| degenerative diseases. The Department and the Agency shall |
| 17 |
| submit a joint report to the Governor and the General Assembly |
| 18 |
| by December 31, 2005.
