| AN ACT with regard to vehicles.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
| 3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 |
| Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing |
| 5 |
| Section 12-803
as follows:
|
| 6 |
| (625 ILCS 5/12-803) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12-803)
|

| Sec. 12-803. (a) Each school bus shall be equipped with a |
| 8 |
| stop signal
arm on the driver's side of the school bus that may |
| 9 |
| be operated either manually
or mechanically. For each school |
| 10 |
| bus manufactured on and after September 1,
1992, the stop |
| 11 |
| signal arm shall be an octagon shaped semaphore that conforms |
| 12 |
| to
49 C.F.R. 571.131, "SCHOOL BUS PEDESTRIAN SAFETY DEVICES", |
| 13 |
| S5.1 through S5.5.
|
| 14 |
| (b) Each school bus manufactured before
prior to September |
| 15 |
| 1, 1992
shall be
equipped with a stop signal arm that conforms |
| 16 |
| to standards promulgated by the
Department.
