The Illinois Insurance Code is amended by 5 changing Section 356x as follows: 6 (215 ILCS 5/356x) 7 Sec. 356x. Coverage for colorectal cancer examination 8 and screening. 9 (a) An individual or group policy of accident and health 10 insurance or a managed care plan that is amended, delivered, 11 issued, or renewed on or after the effective date of this 12 amendatory Act of the 93rd General Assembly that provides 13 coverage to a resident of this State must provide benefits or 14 coverage for all colorectal cancer examinations and 15 laboratory tests for colorectal cancer as prescribed by a 16 physician, in accordance with the published American Cancer 17 Society guidelines on colorectal cancer screening or other 18 existing colorectal cancer screening guidelines issued by 19 nationally recognized professional medical societies or 20 federal government agencies, including the National Cancer 21 Institute, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 22 and the American College of Gastroenterology. 23 (b) Coverage required under this Section may not impose 24 any deductible, coinsurance, waiting period, or other 25 cost-sharing limitation that is greater than that required 26 for other coverage under the policy.An insurer shall provide27in each group policy, contract, or certificate of accident28and health insurance amended, delivered, issued, or renewed29covering persons who are residents of this State coverage for30colorectal cancer screening with sigmoidoscopy or fecal31occult blood testing once every 3 years for persons who areSB1417 Enrolled -2- LRB093 05171 JLS 05231 b 1at least 50 years old.2(b) For persons who may be classified as high risk for3colorectal cancer because the person or a first degree family4member of the person has a history of colorectal cancer, the5coverage required under subsection (a) shall apply to persons6who have attained at least 30 years of age.7(c) This Section does not apply to agreements,8contracts, or policies that provide coverage for a specified9disease or other limited benefit coverage.10 (Source: P.A. 90-741, eff. 1-1-99.) 11 Section 99.
