 1        AN ACT in relation to sheriffs.

 2        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section 5. The  Counties  Code  is  amended  by  changing
 5    Section 3-6020 as follows:

 6        (55 ILCS 5/3-6020) (from Ch. 34, par. 3-6020)
 7        Sec.   3-6020.    Contempt   of   court;   damages.   The
 8    disobedience  of  any  sheriff  to perform the command of any
 9    warrant, process, order or judgment legally issued to him  or
10    her,  shall be deemed a contempt of the court that issued the
11    same, and may be punished accordingly; and he or she shall be
12    liable to the party aggrieved  for   all  damages  occasioned
13    thereby.  No  sheriff shall be civilly liable for serving, as
14    directed by  the  court,  any  warrant,  order,  process,  or
15    judgment  that  has been issued or affirmed by a court of the
16    State of Illinois and that is valid on its face,  unless  the
17    service involved willful or wanton misconduct by the sheriff.
