HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Rollins Currie is retiring after more than 57
3 years at the Bloomington Country Club; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Rollins grew up in Centralia, and started working
5 for the Bloomington Country Club on March 22, 1947; he worked
6 his way up from dishwasher, to locker attendant, to head of the
7 Grill Room, before being made Assistant Manager in January
8 1981; he has eight children, nine grandchildren, and three
9 great-grandchildren; and
 
10     WHEREAS, He has worked hard through the years training the
11 hundreds of employees who have come and gone; he tried to
12 impress upon them the values of honesty, integrity, and good
13 service at all times; he has done "about everything at the
14 club", including waiting and bussing tables, shining shoes, and
15 even keeping the books; one of the greatest rewards of his many
16 years is the number of former employees who come back to see
17 him; one of his greatest achievements is his success in adding
18 more children's activities and parties at the club; and
 
19     WHEREAS, For 27 years, he walked to and from work,
20 averaging 12 miles a day; typically, he would time his early
21 morning walk to arrive at the club around 8 a.m.; he would work
22 until 2 p.m., and walk back home; he would then return to the
23 club at 5 p.m., and return home at 11 p.m. or midnight; people
24 along his route knew him as "the man with the cigar"; his
25 favorite times to walk would be in the misty rain or just at
26 dark in the winter when it was just beginning to snow; and
 
27     WHEREAS, And now he is walking into retirement; his last
28 day at the Bloomington County Club will be December 31, 2004;
29 he will continue his practice of keeping his nine grandchildren
30 and three great-grandchildren by himself for four days every
31 January, but he will miss the "kids" in his larger, extended

1 family, which is now how he thinks of the members at
2 Bloomington Country Club; therefore, be it
 
3     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
5 congratulate Rollins Currie on his many years of exemplary
6 service with the Bloomington Country Club and we wish him all
7 the best in his retirement; and be it further
 
8     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9 presented to Rollins Currie as an expression of our admiration
10 and esteem.
