| WHEREAS, Charles Edward McChesney of Gladstone passed away |
3 |
| on November 6, 2004; and
|
4 |
| WHEREAS, He was born in Burlington, Iowa on May 18, 1928 to |
5 |
| Clarence Dale and Maud Della Charles McChesney; he graduated |
6 |
| from Biggsville High School in 1945 and attended Iowa State |
7 |
| University; on April 23, 1948, he married Edith Marie Conner; |
8 |
| and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, He was a farmer and a livestock feeder, a |
10 |
| grassroots politician and a life-long public servant; he was |
11 |
| one of the founders of Gladstone Grain Company and the Gulfport |
12 |
| River Terminal; for several years he operated Cheap Charlie's, |
13 |
| a retail outlet for salvaged goods; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, He was a 4-H Club leader and president of the |
15 |
| Gladstone PTA; he served on the Unit #115 School Board; he |
16 |
| served on the Henderson County Fair Board; he was a director on |
17 |
| the Western Illinois Electric Cooperative board; he was a |
18 |
| co-founder of the Tri-County Cattlemen's Association and |
19 |
| Hend-Co-Hills Golf & Country Club; he was a host farmer to |
20 |
| Japanese exchange students through the Japanese Agricultural |
21 |
| Training Program and was one of only two farmers to tour Japan |
22 |
| compliments of the Program; and
|
23 |
| WHEREAS, He served as chairman of the Henderson County |
24 |
| Young Republicans; he founded and organized the Highway 34 |
25 |
| Coalition and lobbied elected officials in Washington for |
26 |
| federal funds to re-route the U.S. Route 34 project between |
27 |
| Monmouth, Illinois and Burlington, Iowa; he was a member of |
28 |
| Biggsville Methodist Church and, later, of Monmouth's First |
29 |
| Baptist Church; and |
30 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Charles Edward McChesney will be |
