| WHEREAS, George Kutsunis, a long-time Geneseo retailer, |
3 |
| and his wife, Linda, saying they have been blessed to have |
4 |
| lived and worked in Geneseo all their lives, have given $1 |
5 |
| million in grant money to the Geneseo community; the Kutsunis |
6 |
| family has lived in Geneseo since the early 1900s, when |
7 |
| George's dad opened a shoe repair shop at what is now Tim's |
8 |
| Barber Shop on North State Street; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, The endowment fund will come out of the newly |
10 |
| formed Kutsunis Family Foundation and be used to seed a college |
11 |
| scholarship targeting students who show great potential, but |
12 |
| have a harder time earning scholarships; revenue from the |
13 |
| investment of the seed money will be split between the |
14 |
| scholarship program and local capital improvement projects |
15 |
| through the Geneseo Is For Tomorrow (GIFT) Foundation; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, The scholarship program will be unique, in that it |
17 |
| targets "B" and "C" students for assistance to help make their |
18 |
| college education a reality; designing the scholarship program |
19 |
| to impact students with average grades was important to the |
20 |
| Kutsunis family because high school graduates are at a |
21 |
| crossroads; with just a little nudge, those "crossroads" |
22 |
| students are often able to go on to accomplish great things for |
23 |
| themselves and their community; and
|
24 |
| WHEREAS, Throughout his 42 years in business, George |
25 |
| Kutsunis has had wonderful success with GWK Enterprises, his |
26 |
| group of women's specialty shops based in Geneseo; he has |
27 |
| always given back in various ways, including donations to |
28 |
| schools, the library, the hospital, and whenever there was a |
29 |
| need; his businesses have been honored numerous times in the |
30 |
| past for his years of dedication to the business environment |
31 |
| and quality of life in Geneseo; with this gift, the Kutsunis |

| family continues their commitment to community service and |
