| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, Reverend C.R. Phillips has served as Pastor of |
3 |
| Calvary M.B. Church in Chicago for 40 years; and
|
4 |
| WHEREAS, He was born in Camden, Alabama, and moved in early |
5 |
| childhood to Mobile, Alabama where he attended grammar and high |
6 |
| school; in 1956, he moved to Chicago, where he attended Jones |
7 |
| Commercial High School and Loop Junior College; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, He united with Original Mount Pleasant M.B. Church |
9 |
| in 1956; he was called to the ministry in 1960, and served as |
10 |
| an Associate Minister at Original Mount Pleasant M.B. Church; |
11 |
| in 1968, he completed studies at the Chicago Baptist Institute |
12 |
| in Seminary Theology, and in 1973, he received his Bachelor of |
13 |
| Arts in Theology; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, In 1964, he was installed as Pastor of Calvary |
15 |
| M.B. Church; since then, the church has experienced tremendous |
16 |
| growth; the membership grew from 50 in 1964 to over 3,000 in |
17 |
| 2001; in 1984, the Church celebrated its 53rd anniversary by |
18 |
| moving to its present location at 8247 South Jeffery; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, Calvary M.B. Church is a member of the National |
20 |
| Baptist Convention and the New Era District; the Church is also |
21 |
| involved in neighborhood and community activities; and
|
22 |
| WHEREAS, Pastor Phillips is married to Sister Carolyn A. |
23 |
| Lindsey Phillips; they have two sons, Roger Phillips and Sgt. |
24 |
| Roderick Lindsey, and several grandchildren; therefore, be it
|
25 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
26 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
27 |
| congratulate Reverend C.R. Phillips on the occasion of his 40th |
28 |
| anniversary as Pastor of Calvary M.B. Church in Chicago and we |
29 |
| thank him for his inspirational service to the community; and |
