HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Grace Church of Mahomet is celebrating its 50th
3 anniversary of ministry to the community; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Grace Church of Mahomet, formerly known as Grace
5 Baptist Church, began in 1954 as the Grace Bible Church and
6 soon became affiliated with the Conservative Baptist
7 Association; and
 
8     WHEREAS, After settling in property on Washington Street in
9 1955, the congregation acquired property at 800 West Oak
10 Street; a gymnasium/activities center was constructed and
11 completed in 1981 while the congregation continued to meet at
12 the Washington Street church; in 1986, the Washington Street
13 property was sold and the church moved its services into the
14 gymnasium at its present location at 800 West Oak Street; the
15 current worship center was completed in 1992 and a west wing
16 was completed in early 1999; a new children's ministry/youth
17 wing opened in June 2004, along with a new daughter church,
18 Crossroads, in the City of Monticello; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Beginning with just a handful of people and one
20 pastor, Grace has blossomed into a church of over 900 regular
21 attenders, two services, contemporary worship, relevant and
22 practical teaching, seven full-time ministry staff, and
23 multi-faceted children's, student, adult, and worship arts
24 ministries; and
 
25     WHEREAS, Grace Church of Mahomet contributes to both the
26 spiritual growth of its members and the social needs of the
27 community; it generously makes its facilities available to a
28 number of groups and organizations; therefore, be it
 
29     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
30 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we

1 congratulate Grace Church of Mahomet on the occasion its 50th
2 anniversary and we recognize its outstanding contributions to
3 the community; and be it further
 
4     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5 presented to Senior Pastor Gary Sinclair with our best wishes.
