| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, John Early is retiring after a distinguished |
3 |
| career with the Village of Matteson Fire Department; and
|
4 |
| WHEREAS, John Early started with the Village of Matteson |
5 |
| Fire Department as a cadet firefighter at the age of 16; he |
6 |
| became a volunteer firefighter at the age of 18, and at the age |
7 |
| of 21, he was one of the first two full-time career |
8 |
| firefighters appointed in December of 1974; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, After taking a competitive promotional exam in the |
10 |
| 1979, John was promoted to Fire Lieutenant and has served as |
11 |
| the Shift Commander; as Shift Commander, he was the highest |
12 |
| ranking officer assigned to a 24-hour shift; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, He attained numerous State Fire Certifications, |
14 |
| including Firefighter III, Fire Officer II, Arson |
15 |
| Investigator, and Instructor II, which furthered his |
16 |
| professional development, and also provided the Village with |
17 |
| specialized skills needed to carry out the mission of the Fire |
18 |
| Department; in 1971, he was one of the first students to attend |
19 |
| and graduate from the Emergency Medical Technician class |
20 |
| offered at St. James Hospital; he upgraded his training and |
21 |
| became a Paramedic in 1973 as a member of the second graduating |
22 |
| class through what is now the South Cook County Emergency |
23 |
| Medical System through Ingalls Hospital; and
|
24 |
| WHEREAS, He acquired his Associate of Applied Science |
25 |
| degree in Fire Science Technology from Prairie State College in |
26 |
| 1975; in 1987, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Fire |
27 |
| Protection Technology and Administration from Western Illinois |
28 |
| University; and
|
29 |
| WHEREAS, John, and his wife, Marcia, have two children, |
30 |
| Shanna and Ryan; in his retirement, John hopes to enjoy trips |
