HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois were deeply saddened to learn of the death of
4 Elizabeth Clay of Chicago on October 22, 2004; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She was born July 19, 1928 to Clem and Everlina
6 Wright in Shaw, Mississippi; and
 
7     WHEREAS, She attended Antioch Church School, where she
8 received her formal education; she married Amos Clay on
9 December 25, 1942, and to this union, sixteen children were
10 born; the family moved to Chicago on December 26, 1969; and
 
11     WHEREAS, She was employed at the Sheridan Hotel as a
12 housekeeper, and she was also employed with the Board of
13 Registration; she was the President of the Senior Citizen Group
14 in the 37th Ward; and
 
15     WHEREAS, She was a member of the Landmark Missionary
16 Baptist Church and worked faithfully on the Mother's Board; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Elizabeth was a cheerful, loving person, and
18 mother to many and loved by most; and
 
19     WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by three of her
20 children; her husband; her sisters, Ada Sheperd and Lena Mae
21 Hudson; and her brothers, Johnny, Columbus, Jeff, and Lawyer
22 Wright; and
 
23     WHEREAS, The passing of Elizabeth Clay will be felt by all
24 who knew and loved her, especially her children, Joseph Jones,
25 Willie (Shirley) Clay, Juarez Clay, Romether Clay, Mary Clay,
26 Sandra D. Clay, Joyce Carrasquillo, Gloria Jean Clay, Marie
27 Clay, Lucille Brown, Rosetta Clay, Everlina Adams, Louis Clay
28 and Amos Clay; her two sisters, Alberta Ingram and Mary Bell

1 Davis; her 140 grandchildren; her 145 great-grandchildren; her
2 five great-great-grandchildren; her three great-great-great
3 grandchildren; and a host of in-laws, other relatives and
4 friends; therefore, be it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7 mourn the passing of Elizabeth Clay and extend our sincerest
8 condolences to her family, friends, and community; and be it
9 further
 
10     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to the family of Elizabeth Clay as an expression of
12 our deepest sympathy.
