| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, Nicholas Pruitt of Carlyle has won a 2004 |
3 |
| Governor's Green Youth Award for his Eagle Scout Leadership |
4 |
| Service Project; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, The Governor's Green Youth Awards program is |
6 |
| sponsored by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency; the |
7 |
| program encourages young people to undertake environmental |
8 |
| projects that will make a difference in their communities; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, Nick planned a reforestation and education |
10 |
| project for his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project; in |
11 |
| addition to planning the project, he had to plan a way to fund |
12 |
| it; he held a "Memory Tree" sale from November 15 to December |
13 |
| 15, 2002, and the trees purchased were planted in memory or |
14 |
| honor of someone; and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, The Bond County Soil and Water Conservation |
16 |
| District agreed to sell the trees at a discount, and a total of |
17 |
| 171 trees were sold for $5 and $10; the price included the |
18 |
| tree, fertilizer, a location marker and free planting; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, In April, Nick solicited volunteers from Scout |
20 |
| Troop 225 in Breese to help plant the trees; they were trained |
21 |
| to plant the trees and were given a copy of planting |
22 |
| instructions for reference; a coordinated planting calendar |
23 |
| was made so all the trees would be planted in one week; Nick |
24 |
| and his mother sorted the trees and kept them moist until their |
25 |
| planting date; and
|
26 |
| WHEREAS, Nick was able to purchase 52 trees and Tree ID |
27 |
| books for schools in Clinton and Bond counties; therefore, be |
28 |
| it
