| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
2 |
| WHEREAS, The continued operation of Vandalia Correctional |
3 |
| Center is vital to the economy and public safety of the State |
4 |
| of Illinois; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Vandalia Correctional Center employs or has |
6 |
| contracts with over 500 persons and is the largest employer in |
7 |
| Fayette County; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, The closing of Vandalia Correctional Center will |
9 |
| devastate the economy of Fayette County; and |
10 |
| WHEREAS, Governor Rod Blagojevich has not included funding |
11 |
| of Vandalia Correctional Center in his fiscal year 2005 budget |
12 |
| and planned on closing the facility on July 1, 2004; and |
13 |
| WHEREAS, Upon hearing of the Governor's proposal to close |
14 |
| the facility, Vandalia Mayor Rick Gottman organized a petition |
15 |
| drive to keep the facility open and has rallied his community |
16 |
| in support of this effort; and |
17 |
| WHEREAS, The fiscal year 2005 Illinois State budget will |
18 |
| continue to fund Vandalia Correctional Center; and |
19 |
| WHEREAS, Without Mayor Gottman's outstanding leadership, |
20 |
| hard work, and dedication to his community, Vandalia |
21 |
| Correctional Center would not be funded; therefore, be it |
22 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
23 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
24 |
| congratulate Vandalia Mayor Rick Gottman on his outstanding |
25 |
| leadership, hard work, and dedication to his community in |
26 |
| keeping Vandalia Correctional Center open; and be it further
