| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives of the State of Illinois were deeply saddened |
4 |
| to learn of the death of Army National Guard Sergeant Shawna |
5 |
| Morrison of Paris on September 5, 2004 in Baghdad, Iraq; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Sergeant Morrison, 26, was killed in a mortar |
7 |
| attack on a United States Army compound on the outskirts of |
8 |
| Baghdad; she was with the Army National Guard's 1544th |
9 |
| Transportation Company out of Paris; and |
10 |
| WHEREAS, the 1544th is attached to the Army's 13th Corps |
11 |
| Support Command, which oversees distribution of military fuel, |
12 |
| food, water, and other supplies to United States forces across |
13 |
| Iraq; Sergeant Morrison handled satellite and computer |
14 |
| communications and drove a truck, and was working mostly in |
15 |
| ensuring that communication was maintained between units; and |
16 |
| WHEREAS, Sergeant Morrison belonged to the track team and |
17 |
| the flag corps at Paris High School; it was Sergeant Morrison's |
18 |
| adventurous spirit that propelled her to seek the new, the |
19 |
| different, the stimulating, in life; and |
20 |
| WHEREAS, While still in high school, Sergeant Morrison |
21 |
| signed up for the Illinois Army National Guard, and in November |
22 |
| 2003, while away in college in Champaign, she was called to |
23 |
| active duty to serve in Iraq; and |
24 |
| WHEREAS, Sergeant Morrison often took fishing trips with |
25 |
| her family, and she was known never to have minded threading a |
26 |
| worm onto a hook; she will be remembered by many as a heroic |
27 |
| young woman, deserving of honor; and |
28 |
| WHEREAS, Her death will be deeply felt by all who knew and |
29 |
| loved her, especially her parents, Rick and Cindy Morrison, and |
