| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, Kate Besch was born on September 29, 1904 in |
3 |
| Hungary; when she was three years old, she and her mother, two |
4 |
| brothers, and sister moved to Chicago, where her father had |
5 |
| arrived two years earlier to find work and establish a home; |
6 |
| they lived on the north side of Chicago and moved to 2669 |
7 |
| Orchard Street in 1921; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, That year, Kate married George Bair; they lived in |
9 |
| Canton, Ohio for a year and then returned to Chicago, where she |
10 |
| has lived ever since; she and George lived at the corner of |
11 |
| Wrightwood and Burling for some time, but moved to the family |
12 |
| home on Orchard Street when her mother passed away in 1938; |
13 |
| George worked for the Chicago Police Department, where he came |
14 |
| in contact with infamous figures like John Dillinger and Bugsy |
15 |
| Malone; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, George and Kate had one son, Georgie, who died |
17 |
| tragically in an auto accident at the age of 5 in 1929; Kate's |
18 |
| husband passed away in 1979, but Kate remains in the house that |
19 |
| her parents bought; she is in great health and spirits, is a |
20 |
| joy to her friends and neighbors, and is the much-loved aunt of |
21 |
| Lois Alliger; and
|
22 |
| WHEREAS, A celebration was held in honor of Kate Bair's |
23 |
| 100th birthday on September 26, 2004 at 4:30 p.m. at Sapori |
24 |
| Trattoria on Halsted and Schubert; therefore, be it |
25 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
26 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
27 |
| congratulate Kate Bair on the occasion of her 100th birthday, |
28 |
| and we extend to her our sincere best wishes for continued good |
29 |
| health and happiness; and be it further |
