| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
3 |
| State of Illinois congratulate Richard and Polly Boyajian of |
4 |
| Chicago on their retirement and salute Mr. Boyajian's store, |
5 |
| Boyajian's Bazaar, a small Gandhi-inspired shop in the Hyde |
6 |
| Park area of Chicago; and |
7 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Boyajian created Boyajian's Bazaar following |
8 |
| a 1968 teaching mission in India, where he was influenced by |
9 |
| Mahatma Gandhi to do what he could to improve the quality of |
10 |
| life; and |
11 |
| WHEREAS, For nearly 24 years, Boyajian's Bazaar has been |
12 |
| not only a Hyde Park tradition, but also an outlet for people |
13 |
| from around the world who make and sell handcrafted items like |
14 |
| Indian bedspreads, stone and wood carvings, Mexican dishes, |
15 |
| papier mache and wood boxes, dolls, jewelry, and beads; and |
16 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Boyajian's dedication to helping others is |
17 |
| demonstrated by his contributions to many different charities |
18 |
| and organizations and his annual benefit for UNICEF; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, Even after he closes his store and retires, Mr. |
20 |
| Boyajian plans to participate in the art and handcraft fairs |
21 |
| that have become a part of his life; he plans to set up shop in |
22 |
| retirement homes, churches, and schools for jewelry repair and |
23 |
| instruction; and
|
24 |
| WHEREAS, Polly Boyajian is also retiring from her position |
25 |
| as Program Director of the Adult Day Center, Hyde Park |
26 |
| Neighborhood Club, where she has used her skills as an |
27 |
| administrator for more than two decades; and |
28 |
| WHEREAS, Polly and Dick Boyajian plan to retire in Olympia, |
29 |
| Washington in order to be nearer to their three loving |
