2 | WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the | ||||||
3 | State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Dwain | ||||||
4 | Phillip Lubin on Sunday, September 12, 2004; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Mr. Lubin was born on August 9, 1960 in Chicago to | ||||||
6 | Peggy and Benjamin Lubin; he attended St. Clotilde Elementary | ||||||
7 | School and De La Salle High School; he went on to graduate from | ||||||
8 | Prairie View University in Prairie View, Texas with a Bachelor | ||||||
9 | of Science degree in mechanical engineering in May of 1983; | ||||||
10 | while a student at Prairie View, he was listed in "Who's Who | ||||||
11 | Among Students in American Universities and Colleges"; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, While growing up, Mr. Lubin loved to fix things, | ||||||
13 | especially things with an engine or motor; he was often found | ||||||
14 | dismantling objects around the house to see how they worked, | ||||||
15 | and putting them back together to see whether he could get them | ||||||
16 | to work even better; one of his proudest moments as a child was | ||||||
17 | making and riding his go-cart; he created it from scratch and | ||||||
18 | then challenged others in the neighborhood to races; from | ||||||
19 | go-carts, he moved on to motorcycles, and in his late teens, he | ||||||
20 | joined a motorcycle club; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Mr. Lubin then turned his attention to cars; he | ||||||
22 | quickly became knowledgeable about cars and was proud of his | ||||||
23 | memory as he could tell you the specifications of most cars on | ||||||
24 | the road today; and
| ||||||
25 | WHEREAS, On July 21, 1984, Dwain fulfilled a life-long | ||||||
26 | dream by becoming a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.; | ||||||
27 | he pledged at Xi Lambda chapter in Chicago and quickly went on | ||||||
28 | to become a life member; in 1991, he was a charter member and | ||||||
29 | founding deacon of New Hope Community Baptist Church; and
| ||||||
30 | WHEREAS, Following college, Mr. Lubin pursued a career as a |

| |||||||
1 | mechanical engineer working at Sargent and Lundy Engineers, and | ||||||
2 | then he moved on to Nicor Gas, where he spent 15 years; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Mr. Lubin loved to travel and enjoyed taking | ||||||
4 | cruises; it was on his first trip to Bermuda in February of | ||||||
5 | 2000, that he met his wife, Aderonke; they were married on | ||||||
6 | August 5, 2000; on January 21, 2001, he moved to Bermuda, where | ||||||
7 | he and Aderonke became members of Marsden First United | ||||||
8 | Methodist Church; he was a member of Epsilon Theta Lambda | ||||||
9 | chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity in Bermuda; he worked at | ||||||
10 | King Edward Memorial Hospital Facilities Department, and just | ||||||
11 | before making the decision to return to Chicago, he worked | ||||||
12 | briefly at the West End Development Corporation; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Mr. Lubin was a good friend and confidante to | ||||||
14 | many; he enjoyed the friendships that he had made in his | ||||||
15 | lifetime; he loved to talk on the phone and spent hours staying | ||||||
16 | in touch with people from around the country and the world; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, The passing of Mr. Lubin has been deeply felt by | ||||||
18 | many, especially his wife, Aderonke; his parents, Benjamin and | ||||||
19 | Peggy Lubin; his sister, Niva Lubin-Johnson and her husband, | ||||||
20 | Joseph Johnson; his grandmother, Johnnie Jackson; his | ||||||
21 | mother-in-law and fathers-in-law, Cynthia Bademosi and Denny | ||||||
22 | Richardson and Rufus Bademosi; his brothers-in-law, Oluremi | ||||||
23 | and Abimbola Bademosi and their wives, Sydonnie and Omonike; | ||||||
24 | his nieces, Tamia and Oreoluwa Bademosi; his godsons, | ||||||
25 | Christopher Jelkes and Matthew Marchbanks; and his numerous | ||||||
26 | relatives and friends; therefore, be it
| ||||||
27 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
28 | NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
29 | mourn the passing of Dwain Phillip Lubin, and we extend our | ||||||
30 | deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew and | ||||||
31 | loved him; and be it further
