| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Mae M. |
4 |
| Stinespring, who passed away on Monday, August 23, 2004; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Stinespring was born on February 17, 1912 in |
6 |
| Chicago to John F. and Goldie Belle (Patterson) Marty; she |
7 |
| married Harry P. Stinespring on August 18, 1936; and |
8 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Stinespring graduated from Carl Schurz High |
9 |
| School in Chicago in 1930 where she served as class vice |
10 |
| president while her husband, Harry was class president; and |
11 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Stinespring was a piano soloist at the |
12 |
| Chicago Symphony Orchestra when she was 17 and 18 years old; |
13 |
| and |
14 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Stinespring graduated from Northwestern |
15 |
| University in 1934 with a bachelor of science from the school |
16 |
| of speech and a minor in education and Latin; and |
17 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Stinespring taught at Evanston Grade School |
18 |
| and the Croatian Children's Home in Niles; in 1985, she was |
19 |
| inducted into the Carol Schurz Hall of Fame; and |
20 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Stinespring dedicated her life to community |
21 |
| service through life long activities as a leader and founder of |
22 |
| numerous organizations; she was founder of NIMC Auxillary Board |
23 |
| and served as president from 1956 to 1958; she served as |
24 |
| chairman of the NIMC Foundation Board from 1984 through 1987; |
25 |
| during her leadership on the Foundation Board, she guided the |
26 |
| first NIMC capital campaign to build the new McHenry |
27 |
| Hospital/NIMC which opened at its present site in 1984; she |
28 |
| served on the NIMC board of directors from 1982 to 1985; she |
29 |
| also served as an ex-officio member of the Northern Illinois |

| Human Services (parent) Board from 1984 to 1986; and |
2 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Stinespring was a founding member of Family |
3 |
| Services and Community Mental Health Center of McHenry in 1959; |
4 |
| she served on the board of directors from 1959 to 1979, and was |
5 |
| honored as the "Woman of the Year" in 1984 on its 25th |
6 |
| anniversary; she was a founding member of hospice services in |
7 |
| McHenry County and served on their board of directors from 1982 |
8 |
| to 1983; in 1979 she was awarded the "Woman of the Year" by the |
9 |
| McHenry Business and Professional Women's Club; she also served |
10 |
| as a director of the First National Bank of McHenry and of |
11 |
| Chicago Manufacturing Company and was a long-standing member of |
12 |
| the Union League of Chicago; she was a member of PEO |
13 |
| International Women's Organization, member and former officer |
14 |
| of Questers International, member, former leader and sponsor of |
15 |
| Job's Daughters of McHenry, member of the League of Women |
16 |
| Voters, founder of THEOS (To Help Each Other To Smile), a |
17 |
| support group for widows and widowers, and she was also on the |
18 |
| board of directors of Conference Point Camp; and |
19 |
| WHEREAS, In 1983, "The Tree of Life" a bronze sculpture was |
20 |
| donated to NIMC by Mrs. Stinespring in honor of her husband; |
21 |
| The Tree of Life program is a vital part of the ongoing donor |
22 |
| commemorative and memorial programs at Centegra; and |
23 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Stinespring also had the idea for McHenry |
24 |
| County Meals on Wheels; she began the process through the |
25 |
| Diocesan Council of Catholic Women in the early 1970s in the |
26 |
| McHenry and Wonder Lake area; she also delivered meals to the |
27 |
| aged and infirmed; and |
28 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Stinespring was a member of First United |
29 |
| Church in McHenry, where she was involved in the women's circle |
30 |
| activities, the scholarship program and she was a church |
31 |
| conference delegate; and |
|

| WHEREAS, Mrs. Stinespring was preceded in death by her |
2 |
| husband, her parents, a daughter, Sue Cain, a son, John W. |
3 |
| Stinespring, a grandson, Gregory Cain, and a brother, Matthew |
4 |
| "Pete" Marty; and |
5 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Mrs. Stinespring has been deeply |
6 |
| felt by all who knew her, especially her three children, Harry |
7 |
| P. (Janice) Stinespring III, Donald C. (Susan) Stinespring, and |
8 |
| Leota Belle "Libby" (James) Britton; six grandchildren, M. |
9 |
| David (Donna) Cain Jr., Harry P. "Hal" Stinespring IV, John R. |
10 |
| (Susie) Stinespring, Donald C. (Kari) Stinespring Jr., Brenton |
11 |
| C. (Ali) Stinespring, Carissa G. Belle Stinespring; eight |
12 |
| great-grandchildren, Theresa, Rachel, and Deborah Cain, |
13 |
| Rachael, Kelsey, and Caleb Stinespring, Keegan Stinespring, |
14 |
| Lucas Holub; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and |
15 |
| great-nephews; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
17 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
18 |
| mourn the passing of Mae M. Stinespring, along with all who |
19 |
| knew and loved her, and offer her family and friends our |
20 |
| deepest sympathy; and be it further
|
21 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
22 |
| presented to the family of Mae M. Stinespring with our |
23 |
| sincerest condolences.
