| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to honor Jane O'Connor Kerr for |
4 |
| her many contributions to the Ravinia Festival and the arts in |
5 |
| Illinois and to honor the Life Trustees of the Ravinia |
6 |
| Festival; and
|
7 |
| WHEREAS, The Ravinia Festival is North America's oldest |
8 |
| music festival and celebrates its centennial during the summer |
9 |
| of 2004; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Kerr has held many positions of distinction |
11 |
| within the Ravinia Festival; she was the first woman member of |
12 |
| the Ravinia Festival Board, was the president and a founding |
13 |
| member of the Ravinia Festival Women's Board, and she has |
14 |
| served as curator of three art expositions at the Ravinia |
15 |
| Festival; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Kerr has contributed to the arts in Illinois |
17 |
| in many other ways; she was appointed to the Illinois Arts |
18 |
| Council by Governor Ogilvie in 1969 and was one of the longest |
19 |
| serving members until 1994, a period of 25 years; she is a |
20 |
| member of the Board of the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art |
21 |
| and the Education Committee of the Art Institute of Chicago; |
22 |
| she chaired a committee of the Lyric Opera, was the founding |
23 |
| president of the Chicago City Ballet, President of Ruth Pate's |
24 |
| Ballet, a member of the City of Chicago Arts Council, a member |
25 |
| of the Board of the Museum of Science and Industry, chairman of |
26 |
| Young People for the Arts, chairman and first president of the |
27 |
| Catholic Interracial Council, chairman of the Library of |
28 |
| International Relations, and was a friend of the artists |
29 |
| Copeland Berg, Ray Telasco, and Georges Roualt; and
|
30 |
| WHEREAS, At a special dinner on August 3, 2004, the |
31 |
| youngest members of the Ravinia family, The Associates, will |
