| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
3 |
| State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Gary |
4 |
| Eugene Grace on March 5, 2004; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Grace was born on June 7, 1951, in Urbana to |
6 |
| Lyle and Berry Shade Grace; he graduated from Urbana High |
7 |
| School and Parkland College and was a fifth generation farmer |
8 |
| for more than 30 years, along with his brother on land north of |
9 |
| Urbana; he married Susan Wagner on August 19, 1972, in Urbana; |
10 |
| and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, He attended Twin City Bible Church in Urbana; he |
12 |
| served on numerous area boards, including the Champaign County |
13 |
| Farm Bureau board of directors from 1997 to 1998 and as its |
14 |
| president from 2000 to 2002; he was also a member of the |
15 |
| bureau's foundation board and oversaw fundraising efforts for |
16 |
| scholarships and other programs; he and his brother, Roger, |
17 |
| shared the Champaign News-Gazette's Farm Leader of the Year |
18 |
| award in 2001; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Grace served on the board of directors and was |
20 |
| instrumental in starting Earth Partners, the State's first |
21 |
| agriculture literacy program for elementary through high |
22 |
| school curriculum; he served as president of the University |
23 |
| High parent faculty organization; and
|
24 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Grace stood out from the crowd because he |
25 |
| fought for agriculture issues on local, State, and federal |
26 |
| levels; he lobbied for education funding reform and property |
27 |
| tax relief; he rallied support for the farm bureau foundation |
28 |
| by organizing raffles and other events; he was known as a |
29 |
| "go-getter" and is remembered as a leader with a vision and the |
30 |
| passion and ability to accomplish his dreams, and his character |
31 |
| and honesty were beyond reproach; and
